Inauguration of Awareness Programme on Mediation Advocacy
Mediation Advocacy is an emerging concept of practice in law in relation to the dispute resolution though the process of mediation. Through training in mediation advocacy, the lawyers are trained to resolve the dispute in collaborative method in contrast to the adversarial approach in litigation. Kerala State Mediation and Conciliation Centre has launched a unique state wide awareness programme for imparting mediation advocacy skills to lawyers in all the Districts, in order to strengthen the mediation mechanism, one of the ADR (Alternative Disputes Resolution) methods available for settlement of disputes. The Statewide Awareness Programme on Mediation Advocacy was inaugurated on 29th July, 2017 at the High Court Auditorium by Hon’ble Mr.Justice Navaniti Prasad Singh, Chief Justice, High Court of Kerala. Hon’ble Mr.Justice K.Ramakrishnan, Member, Board of Governors, Kerala State Mediation and Conciliation Centre, made the welcome address. The Presidential Address was made by Hon’ble Mr.Justice K.Surendra Mohan, President, Board of Governors, Kerala State Mediation and Conciliation Centre. The Hon’ble Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Sri.A.K.Balan, who was the guest of honour, also spoke on the occasion. The felicitations were offered by Adv.Sri.C.P.Sudhakara Prasad, Advocate General of Kerala, Adv.Sri.Thomas Abraham, President, Kerala High Court Advocates Association and Adv.Sri.P.K.Sajeevan, President, Ernakulam Bar Association. Sri.P.K.Aravinda Babu, District Judge and Director, Kerala State Mediation and Conciliation Centre offered Vote of Thanks. Inaugural function was also graced by the August presence of Presidents of various Bar Association of Ernakulam District, 5 Advocates from each of the 14 Districts, Advocates, Mediators, Law Students and Advocate Clerks and other stake holders in Mediation also attended the function.
